Academic Credit Structure at SIT

SIT follows a Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) that allows students to learn at their own pace. This system ensures flexibility while maintaining academic rigor.

What is the Credit System?

A ‘credit’ represents the number of instructional hours per week. Credits are earned through theory, practicals, projects, and internships.

  1. 1 Credit = 1 Hour of Teaching / 2 Hours of Practical
  2. Total credits to graduate: 160–200, depending on the program
  3. Required CGPA for graduation: 5.0
  4.  Based on VTU regulations

  • Timely graduation

  • Reduced academic pressure

  • Better performance in regular semesters

SIT supports students requiring academic accommodations by allowing:

  • Reduced course load per semester

  • Extended time to complete the program

  • Flexible academic planning with mentoring support

Eligible students (e.g., diploma holders or transfer cases) can:

  • Enter directly into higher semesters (Lateral Entry)

  • Transfer equivalent credits from recognized institutions

  • Reduce overall course duration or avoid repetition
