AICTE 5D Idea labs

Fostering Innovation. Enabling Creation.

Established in 2022, the SIT-AICTE IDEA Lab is a flagship innovation hub at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, supported by AICTE, New Delhi. It is part of the national initiative to integrate STEM fundamentals with hands-on learning, prototyping, and entrepreneurship.

With a total funding of ₹1.10 crore (jointly by AICTE and the Institution), the lab offers state-of-the-art facilities to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application. It empowers students, faculty, industries, and budding entrepreneurs to transform ideas into working solutions.

Key Objectives

Develop young minds to be competent technical professionals having knowledge, abilities and skills with ethical values.
Create and nurture a culture among students and faculties by providing a platform with necessary training, tools, mentorship and implementation space to convert ideas into prototypes or solutions to societal problems.
Partner with the industries for bridging the competency gap of students and solving industry and societal problems to make them industry ready professionals.
Create facilities to be used by MSMEs for their operational and research and development activities.
Create resources aligning with the activities of national initiatives and industrial requirements.

Student Activities

Student Participation in many national and international events/competitions using the facilities available in the IDEA Lab. for developing the equipment and models required for the same.

Team Auto Architects- Students team involved in developing the All Terrain vehicle and participated in SAE BAZA Competitions

Team Adrenaline Racing- Students team involved in developing the Formula-1 racing car and participated in the SAE competition.

Team Soaring Eagles – Students team involved in developing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and participated in the UAV competitions.

Students have utilized the facilities in the IDEA Lab. for developing innovative projects as part of their Pre-final and Final year curriculum.

Students have utilized the facilities in the IDEA Lab. for developing robots and participated in many Hackathons.

Students have utilized the facilities in the IDEA Lab. for developing hobby projects and presented in competitions.

Student Benefits

Enhanced hands-on experience, learning by doing resulting in industry ready professionals
The structured training sessions on ideation, design thinking, market survey, frugal innovation, etc. via frequent boot camps, ideation competitions and workshops will enable students to become creative and competent professionals.
Students who develop prototypes having commercial potential will have opportunities to become entrepreneurs based on the training.
Students of other School/College and their teachers will also benefit from the hands-on training at the IDEA Lab and the opportunities given to them to use IDEA Lab facilities for implementing their innovative ideas.
Students get mentorship and facilitation for the commercialization of proof of concept developed in the IDEA Lab.
Students gaining hands-on experience through IDEA Lab will be hired by industries and PSUs for internship and employment.
Open day events which will showcase the prototypes developed which could benefit the rural and local student community.
Provide facilities for students in carrying out multi-disciplinary projects.
Benefit students in acquiring life skills including scientific and business communication, project management, problem solving, networking, presentation skills, etc.
IDEA Lab activities sensitize students in applying their knowledge and skills to identify and solve rural and societal problems thereby contributing to nation building.

Utilization plan for the IDEA Lab

The IDEA Lab. provides all facilities under one roof, for conversion of an idea into prototype, it may lead to good startups.
The IDEA lab. gives a platform for the students and faculty to generate innovative ideas, design and then to develop prototypes utilizing the facilities available in the lab.
The IDEA Lab will offer facilities to MSMEs for their operational and research activities.
The IDEA Lab facilities enable faculty to offer consultancy service to MSMEs in the nearby industrial hubs.
Cluster wise skill development program will be conducted for ITI, diploma, engineering, science students and industry personnel.
Structured certification programs will be offered to young faculties, teachers and staff for career advancement and improvement.
The activities envision to connect the technology expertise and industries in solving the rural needs thereby supporting the national initiatives such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.
The skill training and the support provided in the IDEA Lab will facilitate students to be self-reliant and become entrepreneurs, there by supporting Start-up India and Skill India initiatives.
The IDEA Lab strengthens industry and academia partnership through exchange of ideas, working on the needs of the industries through student internship and career opportunities.
The IDEA Lab train students to think about “Innovation-Enterprises-Business Success” as indicated in National Innovation Startup policy.
The IDEA lab will closely collaborate with AICTE IIC, Ministry of MSME and DST for large scale impact of innovation development.

The AICTE IDEA Lab at Siddaganga Institute of Technology is not only a hub for innovation and hands-on learning for our students but also a resourceful center serving the larger community. The lab regularly hosts school teachers, students from schools, diploma, and ITI institutes, providing them with exposure to cutting-edge equipment and technologies. These visits offer an opportunity to witness real-time applications of STEM concepts, fostering curiosity and enhancing their foundational understanding. By bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical experience, the IDEA Lab is contributing meaningfully to STEM education and capacity building in the region.
