Overview
The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) was started in the year 1986 and has established itself as a center of excellence in education, research, and industry collaboration. With a legacy of academic rigor and innovation, the department focuses on developing future-ready engineers equipped with a unique blend of technical expertise and managerial acumen.
All faculty members in the department hold Ph.D. degrees and are actively engaged in cutting-edge research across diverse domains such as Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Science, and Management. Their research output contributes to both academic advancement and industrial problem-solving, enriching the learning experience of students.
The department takes pride in its strong alumni network of over 1700 graduates, many of whom have made significant contributions in academia, industry, entrepreneurship, and public service across the globe. Their accomplishments stand as a testament to the quality of education and mentorship provided.
With a curriculum designed to meet industry needs and supported by hands-on learning, the department maintains an impressive track record of student placements across top-tier companies in manufacturing, consulting, IT, analytics, and service sectors.

Program Details
The department started in the year 1986 has UG program, B.E in Industrial Engineering and Management and has an intake of 60. The UG program has been accredited by NBA for 4th cycle and is valid through 01-07-2025.
The department has VTU approved research center started in the year 2011 and offers PG program M.Sc. Engineering by research and Ph.D. Till now, 7 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D. and 2 research scholars have been awarded M.Sc. Engineering by research from the research center. 6 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D.

The Industrial Engineering & Management Department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as Metrology and measurements, Work-study, Quality engineering, Manufacturing process. Computer lab has systems of latest configuration and software such as Minitab R 12, Sixth sense ERP, MATlab, SYSTAT, SPSS, ARENA simulation software, solid edge and many other open source Software

Syllabus
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) - UG
Graduates of the Industrial Engineering & Management program will:
1. Graduates will excel in their professional careers, successfully pursue higher education in Engineering and Management or become entrepreneurs.
2. Graduates will manage the functioning of an organization and enhance its competitiveness using contemporary tools in a socially acceptable way.
3. Graduates will demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and societal responsibility and adapt to current trends by engaging in lifelong learning.
Program Outcomes (POs) - UG
Graduates will be able to:
PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)
PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)
PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).
PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)
PO6: The Engineer and The World: Analyse and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact
on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7).
PO7: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion; adhere to national & international laws. (WK9)
