1. Deputation of Faculty for Ph.D. Programme
Started on 24/04/1992.
Financial assistance offered:
75% of gross salary for 3 years (extendable to 4th year).
Revised to 65% of gross salary in 2011.
Faculty must rejoin SIT after Ph.D.
Mandatory bond: Faculty must serve SIT for 5 years after completing Ph.D.
Discontinuation penalty: Repayment of full allowance + 12% interest.
Total beneficiaries (1992–Dec 2021): 136 faculty members
2. Deputation for Post-Doctoral Programmes
Eligibility: Faculty with completed Ph.D.
Duration: 1 year with full salary.
Total beneficiaries (2016–2022): 5 faculty members
3. Undergraduate Research Initiative (UG Research)
Not applicable to students under the 160-credit scheme.
Credits: 6 credits assigned to UG research.
Team: Individual or group of two students (same/different departments).
Exemptions: PE-1 (V sem) and PE-2 (VI sem) waived on successful research.
Process:
Identify guide(s), submit topic and form to HoD in V semester.
Interdisciplinary projects allowed with co-guides.
Deliverables: Paper publication / Patent / PoC.
Evaluation:
Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) throughout.
Final SEE in VII or VIII semester.
Credits added to semester when SEE is completed.
Discontinuation:
Allowed at any time; must complete PE-1 and PE-2 to graduate.
Can extend research until program end; SEE counted as first attempt.

5. Support for M.Tech Publications
Mandatory for all M.Tech students to publish project work.
Funding provided for:
Scopus/Web of Science indexed conferences.
Registration and travel allowance.
Approved by: 26th Academic Council on 26/12/2015
6. Seed/Startup Research Grants for Young Faculty
Seed funding to initiate research in their area of interest.
Equipment procurement allowed from seed money.
Additional support for fund shortfalls under sponsored grants.
7. SIT Research Assistantship for Ph.D. Scholars
- Amount: ₹18,000/month for 24 scholars annually.

Eligibility:
- First-class UG & PG degree.
- Registered Ph.D. in SIT research centers under VTU.
- Not already on deputation or receiving another fellowship.

- Public advertisement on website and newspapers.
- Written test + Interview.
- Syllabus based on GATE and core fundamentals.
- Conducted by external faculty only.

Conditions:
- Offer letter includes terms for quality research.
- Bi-annual progress review for continuation.
